A total of 400 flights, specifically 198 departures and 202 arrivals, at airports in Larnaca and Paphos, to and from various destinations in Europe, have been affected by the air-traffic controllers “work to rule” strike in Greece.
Director of Communications and Public Relations for Hermes Airports Ltd Adamos Aspris said that “unfortunately, due to the changes in the operational system of the air-traffic controllers in Greece, the flight programme to and from the two international airports in Cyprus is affected today as well.”
“However, due to the fact that most of the scheduled flights for today are by foreign airlines and not Cypriot ones, for which the illegal ban by Turkey for use of its air space is in place, it is expected that the situation will improve. Based on Hermes Airports Operation Centre data, from Sunday morning, when the problem arose, totally 400 flights have been affected,” he said, specifically “198 departures and 202 arrivals.”
In Larnaca, on the southern coast, 320 flights have been affected, while in Paphos, on the west, 80. Out of the 400 flights that that have been affected, 26 arrivals and 29 departures have been cancelled, all to and from Larnaca, he said, adding that “the rest of the flights present delays, from 45 minutes to five hours.”
